Where I shoot
Up and down the coast.
I’m based on the Grand Strand and shoot from Myrtle Beach up and down the coast. Every town has its own look, from piers and wide sand to marsh, gardens and live oaks.
- Myrtle Beach, SCMyrtle Beach State Park · Market Common · The Boardwalk and oceanfrontMyrtle Beach is home base. Beyond the obvious stretch of sand, the city has a state park with a pier and maritime forest, the palms and paths of Market Common, and the lights of the boardwalk for evening shoots.
- North Myrtle Beach, SCCherry Grove Pier · Cherry Grove marsh and the north end · Ocean Drive and Main StreetNorth Myrtle Beach is a long run of wide beach with a different feel at each end: the pier and the marsh at Cherry Grove, and the shag-dancing history around Ocean Drive and Main Street.
- Surfside Beach and Garden City, SCSurfside Beach Pier · Garden City Pier · The wide beach betweenSurfside calls itself the Family Beach, and it's an easy place for a family session: wide sand, plenty of beach access, and fishing piers in both Surfside and Garden City.
- Murrells Inlet, SCThe MarshWalk · Huntington Beach State Park · Brookgreen GardensMurrells Inlet has the most varied backdrops on the south end of the Strand: the marsh and docks of the MarshWalk, a state park with a beach and a historic castle-like house, and one of the country's best-known sculpture gardens.
- Pawleys Island, SCThe beach on the island · The marsh side · Litchfield and the causewaysPawleys Island likes to call itself "arrogantly shabby," and that's the appeal: quiet beaches, weathered beach houses, the marsh on the back side of the island, and none of the high-rises up the road.
- Conway, SCThe Conway Riverwalk · Downtown and the live oaks · Coastal Carolina UniversityConway is the Grand Strand's inland town: live oaks draped in moss, a historic downtown, the Riverwalk on the Waccamaw, and Coastal Carolina University just up the road.
